1841 Census: Parish of Clapham

This page is a placeholder. Transcription of the Clapham Enumeration District descriptions has not yet been undertaken. The original images have not yet been sourced from The National Archives.

Clapham formed part of the Wandsworth & Clapham Superintendent Registrar’s District (Benjamin Field), though it had its own Registrar’s sub-district. The TNA piece reference has not yet been confirmed — likely in the HO 107/1046 or HO 107/1047 range.

Clapham is of interest to this site primarily because:

• The south-west side of Clapham Common adjoins the research area and features in several Battersea EDs
• Lavender Hill and the Clapham–Battersea fringe were home to attendees at the 1860s–70s meetings in defence of the Common
• The Wandsworth & Clapham Union Workhouse (East Hill) appears in the Battersea census returns, suggesting administrative overlap between the two parishes
