The decennial censuses from 1841 to 1921, together with the 1939 National Register, are among the most valuable primary sources for the history of Wandsworth and Battersea. They document the people who lived here — their names, ages, occupations, birthplaces and households — at ten-year intervals across the period when these parishes were transformed from semi-rural Surrey villages into densely built London suburbs.
This section brings together transcriptions, notes and research findings from individual census years, with a focus on the enumeration districts covering Wandsworth Common and the surrounding parishes.
