13 Bellevue Rd [Bellevue Pharmacy]

JP (2017, e.2020):

From the 1880s this was Bessell's the Chemist. The Bessells (about whom Robert Trindle told me some unrepeatable anecdotes) were a local family and the shop remained in their hands until the 1980s, when it was taken over briefly by Herrods. For some years now it has been the Bellevue Pharmacy.

PB:

Ron Elam, local historian and postcard collector

For many years in the 1980s and 1990s [are these the right dates?] Ron, a local historian (and much else) who built a unique collection of postcards and photographs of our area, ran a stall nearby on Saturday mornings showing his phenomenal collection and taking orders for framed reproductions. Many local shops (for example the Bellevue Pharmacy) still display the images he provided.

In November 2019 Ron received a Wandsworth Civic Award from the Mayor of Wandsworth at a special awards ceremony at the Civic Suite.

Before he retired this summer, Ron served as a school governor in numerous Wandsworth schools for 50 years, most recently at Chesterton where he made a valuable contribution. In addition he has sat on and chaired independent admissions and exclusions appeal panels in Wandsworth and has participated in some 300 Ofsted inspections.
