THE WANDSWORTH COMMON TRAGEDY. TREASURY PROSECUTION. THE DECEASED'S CAREER ON THE STAGE.
At the South-Western police-court, this morning, Rebecca MarganA Gregory, looking pale and grief-stricken, took her place in the dock, on the charge' of murdering Alfred Graham Stewart, a barrister, residing at Wandsworth Common, on December 21. It will be remembered that she is charged with having stabbed Stewart in the back with a.kmfe, after quarrel? inflicting injuries from which he died a day or two later. Mr. Williamson appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Treasury, and Mr. Nicols defended. . . . . . . . , , j, j > When the prisoner went into the dock a fashionably dressed ladv rusneq forward and affectionately kissed her, whereupon the prisoner burst into
The solicitor for the prosecution said that, after the evidence, he should ask the magistrate to put the prisoner on her trial for the murder of Stewart, notwithstanding the fact that the cproncr's jury had returned a verdict of manslaughter. . , Mr. Howard Douglas Stew'art, residing at South Kensington, said his brother had lived with the prisoner for many years. Cross-examined, witness stated that the deceased had been in Australia for many years. He was an actor, and had appeared in many places, under the name of Graham Stewart. He was a man of violent temper. I know, said witness, how he treated me as boy, and know what he was as vou hear of his attacking a theatrical manager?Yes. have heard several things of that kind. He seemed to quarrel with everybody. He had lo leave one or two companies on account of quarrels. Did he tell you he assaulted theatrical manager, and knocked his teeth down his throat? He may have done so. The magistrate thought this was unsatisfactory evidence, and the Treasury' solicitor characterised it as objectionable.^ The cross-examination was accordingly not continued, but before he left the box witness added that he thought his brother had brought Miss Gregory home with him from Australia. . , After Dr ieyburger had given some details of the post-mortem examination the bc.dv of Mr. Stewart, he said the knife produced was rather blunt, and that very considerable force must have been used to inflict the wound he found on the body. . . . .c? The prisoner was then committed to take her trial the next Session! of the Central Criminal Court.

WANDSWORTH, ANCIENT AND MODERN.
Those interested in the past history of Wandsworth who have not had opportunity of attending any of Mr. Davis's loclurot, on the subject may recommended to pay a visit the West Hill Library. In the reference library there will found an exhibition of numerous photographs, sketches, prints, water colours, and drawings of places and events of interest, both the present day and of other time. Many of the sketches are as valuable as they are interesting. The librarian, it should be stated, is possessed large stock information pertaining Wandsworth. Noticeable among the exhibits is an original water colour, E. Batchelor, dated 1899, and presented by Dr. Longstaff. The view High-street, Wandsworth, looking down from We&t Hill.
There also very photo of what was then known as the Black Sea Wandsworth Common, and which has probably since then been converted into the much-admired pond, with its rustic bridges, that at the present day adorns the common. Prints and sketches of Manor House, Wandsworth, of which Sir Christopher Wren was architect, and which has unfortunately been destroyed, are also on view
