Fencing them in — prefabs on Wandsworth Common to be demolished

West London Observer, 12 October 1956: Fencing them in
West London Observer, 12 October 1956

Temporary bungalows on the L.C.C.'s open spaces at Wormwood Scrubs, Wandsworth Common, and Garratt Green, Wandsworth, are to be demolished. Protective fencing around the sites will cost about £3,000.

[The prefabricated bungalows — "prefabs" — were emergency housing erected on open spaces after the Second World War to address the acute shortage caused by bomb damage. By 1956 the LCC was finally able to begin clearing them from the Common.]
